Thomas Goldman, 62, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2008, at St. Joseph Medical Center. Funeral services will be 1:30 p.m. Friday, February 22, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers. The family suggests contributions to Jewish Family & Children Services and the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. Mr. Goldman was born in Kansas City, MO, where he attended Westport High School and then The University of Missouri – Kansas City where he earned his bachelor’s degree in history and his master’s in education. He was a member of The History Honors Society, Phi Alpha Theta, while attending U.M.K.C. Mr. Goldman was a 30-year veteran of the Kansas City, MO Public School System, serving for 15 years as an Instructional Assistant. Mr. Goldman helped in the founding and development of Satchel Paige Elementary School while working in the school system. Mr. Goldman continued educating students even after his retirement, serving as an elementary school substitute teacher in the Center School District. Mr. Goldman was a current member of Beth Shalom Synagogue. Mr. Goldman was preceded in death by his parents: Saul and Edith Goldman; brothers-in-law: Don Welsh and John Quinlan. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Rene’, of the home; sons and daughters-in-law: Scott Goldman and Beth Marier Goldman, Bellevue, WA, Stuart and Lauren Goldman, Overland Park, KS; brothers and sister-in-law: Michael and Carol Goldman, Overland Park, KS, Jerry Goldman and Steven Goldman, both of Kansas City, MO; sisters and brothers-in-law: Shirley and Tarek Shaltout, Panama City, FL, Deanna and Barry Roseman, Stilwell, KS, Sandra Welsh, Overland Park, KS, Elaine Quinlan, Prairie Village, KS; mother-in-law: Freda Rozenblit, Kansas City, MO; grandchildren: Joseph Edward Goldman, Bellevue, WA, Natalie Amelia Goldman, Overland Park, KS. Mr. Goldman was a dedicated father, husband, son-in-law and grandfather. He was an avid sports fan and loved to play Sunday softball. Mr. Goldman was a kind and gentle soul who did not have an enemy in the world and was always one of the first to help some one in need. He will be greatly missed.
