SOLY MIZRAHI Obituary (1917 - 2016) - Shawnee Mission, Kansas

Soly Eastman Mizrahi, 100, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2016 surrounded by her family at Saint Luke’s Hospice House in Kansas City, MO. Funeral services will be held at 2 pm on Sunday, February 28 at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Chapel, 1901 Blue Ridge Blvd, Independence MO. Burial to follow at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Kehilath Israel Synagogue Cemetery Fund. Soly Mizrahi was born in Cairo, Egypt to Simcha and Solomon Taraboulos. She was married in Cairo to her husband, Albert Mizrahi. After working for various newspapers in Egypt, Albert owned an Arabic newspaper that he registered in her name. During the 1948-1949 War of Israel he was interned and she ran the newspaper in his absence with the help of his two brothers. In February 1960, she and her family were given 24 hours to vacate the country at which time they moved to Paris, France for 18 months. In 1961, the family moved to Mission, KS. Soly and her family joined Kehilath Israel Synagogue in 1961, and have remained longtime members for the past 55 years. Soly worked for Fashionbilt in the garment district for 19 years before retiring to raise her grandchildren. Soly was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Albert Mizrahi; her parents Simcha and Solomon Taraboulos; her brother Henry Taraboulos; and her sister Leah Negrin. She is survived by her son Maurice (companion, Gela Adelman) Eastman; daughter Allegra (Kent) Shanberg; her grandchildren: Abe Eastman, Jacob (Abby) Eastman, Isaac Eastman, David (Cheryl) Shanberg, and Rachel (Alex) Simon; her two great-grandchildren: Eli and Asha Eastman; and her nephew Michael Taraboulos of New York. She will be remembered for her beautiful heart, exponential generosity, passing on family traditions, and fun sense of humor. The family would also like to thank the wonderful, caring staff at Saint Luke’s Hospice House.
