Sidney Kross Obituary (1912

Sidney Kross, 96, of Lenexa, KS, passed away Friday, May 1, 2009 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Lenexa. Funeral services will be 12:30pm Sunday, May 3, in the Rose Hill Cemetery Mausoleum. Burial to follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to the City of Hope, 1500 East Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010 or a charity of one’s choice. Mr. Kross established Sid Kross Office Outfitters, and served at its President from 1947 to 1977. After his son became President, he continued as Chairman of the Board until age 94, at which time the business was sold. He was born in New York, NY and in 1913 moved as a toddler with his family to Topeka, KS where his parents owned a grocery store. Mr. Kross served as a writer for Stars & Stripes in WWII. He returned to Kansas City, KS in 1946. He was an avid horse racing fan, owned race horses and enjoyed some time in the winner’s circle. Mr. Kross was preceded in death by his parents, Benjamin and Anna Kross; his wife of 44 years, Pamela Kross, in 1983 and his daughter, Toni Levine, in 2008. He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law: Owen and Rita Kross, Lenexa, KS; sister: Zenia Persky, Independence, KS; brother-in-law: Bill Kornfeld, Houston, TX; grandchildren: Jeff Levine and his wife Kellie, Cheri Levine, Matt Kross and his wife Holly, Lainey Kross, Sarah Kross; great-grandchildren: Wendi and Judi Levine. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to the caregivers at Sunrise of Lenexa and to Vitas Hospice.
