Shirlea E. Caplan, 79, of Overland Park, KS, died Tuesday, October 24, 2006 at Garden Terrace. Graveside services will be 10:30am Wednesday, October 25, at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery or the Humane Society. Ms. Caplan owned her own commercial lighting business for many years before working as a sales associate in the jewelry industry before her retirement. She was a member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue. Born in St. Joseph, MO to Morris and Rose Sembler Caplan, as a young woman, she sang under the name of Shirlea Kaye. Ms. Caplan was preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Norman Caplan and a nephew, Bradley Caplan. She is survived by her sister: deVera Cline, Las Vegas, NV; sister-in-law: Betty Caplan; nephew: Craig Caplan and his wife, Cathy; nieces: Leslie Caplan and DeLise Cline-Pennel; great-nieces: Hannah Caplan, Sarah Caplan, Dana McCollam, Melissa Pennel; great-nephew: Jason Pennel.
