Sheilah Rae Kocherov Obituary (2006)

Sheilah Rae Isgur Kocherov, 64, of Kansas City, MO, died at her home Tuesday morning, August 15, 2006, of metastatic breast cancer. Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Thursday, August 17, at The Temple, Congregation B''nai Jehudah, 12320 Nall, Overland Park, KS. Burial will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery. Shiva will begin at B''nai Jehudah at 5:45 p.m. that evening with Seudat Havra''ah and service. Sheilah was born January 22, 1942, in Sedalia, MO, the daughter of Louis "Looie" and Ethel Isgur. She graduated from Smith-Cotton High School in Sedalia in 1959. She attended Stephens College and the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO. She moved to Kansas City and commended a lifelong career working for the Jewish community, beginning with The Kansas City Jewish Chronicle and the Jewish Community Center. Following the births of her children, she taught religious school and managed the school office at Temple Beth El. After joining Temple B''nai Jehudah, she worked in the religious school office there every Sunday morning. In 1981, following the closing of family-owned camera store, Metro Photo, Sheilah became a full-time administrative professional at the Temple, Congregation B''nai Jehudah and remained the rest of her life. Sheilah was a longtime member of Star of David B''nai B''rith Women. Through the Jewish Family Service, she joined in the effort in the 1970''s to resettle Soviet Jewry, helping immigrants with everything from learning English to readying their homes. In later decades, she was active in planning and enjoying programming for Jewish singles of all ages. Sheilah was preceded in death by her parents, Looie and Ethel Isgur and sister, Anita Isgur Rubins. Sheilah is survived by brother Jack Isgur; children J.T. Kocherov of Kansas City and Lesli Shrago of Omaha, NE; son-in-law Michael and grandsons Ethan and Noah Shrago, all of Omaha, best friend Susie Dolginoff and pets Dalai and Zlottie Goldie, beloved dog and cat. Sheilah also leaves behind many relatives and friends. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to The Temple, Congregation B''nai Jehudah, 12320 Nall, Overland Park, KS 66209, which will fund the publication of the upcoming Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur Book of Remembrance, a major responsibility of Sheilah''s at The Temple for many years, in her memory or to a cancer charity of your choice.
