Ruth Spielman Ratner, 83, of Kansas City, MO, passed peacefully on Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at the Kansas City Hospice House. As per her request, no services are scheduled. Cremation. Ruth was born at home on May 18, 1925 to Benjamin and Dora Spielman in the Bronx, NY. She started her education early, being taught to read and write by her older sister Roz before she entered kindergarten. Ruth graduated from high school when she was 16 and started college at CCNY. She spent 2 years at CCNY before getting married and starting a family. Ruth continued college periodically while raising her 3 children. She attended Hunter College and Rutgers University, graduating from Rutgers with a degree in Accounting in 1970. Ruth had a career, working at various positions for the State of New Jersey, ending her career as a Budget Analyst. In recent years, Ruth moved from Trenton, NJ to Ocala, FL and then to the Grand Court in Kansas City, where she greatly enjoyed the residents and staff. Ruth was predeceased by her parents and her sister, Beatrice. Survivors include her sister Roz Bernz and her husband Eli; children: Len and Lindsay Ratner; Ellen and Cliff Hubbard and Sandra Carey; grandchildren: Jeremy Carey and Elisa Cooper. The family would like to thank all of her doctors and the staff at both the Kansas City Hospice House and the Grand Court for their care and kindness.
