Rae Ann Rubins Obituary (1932 - 2012)

Rae Ann Rubins, 80, of Leawood, KS, passed away Saturday, March 31, 2012 at her home. Funeral services will be at 1:00pm Monday, April 2, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO 64131 with burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association - Heart of America Chapter, 3846 W. 75th St., Prairie Village, KS 66208. Rae was born in Kansas City, MO, the daughter of Jacob and Leona (Balaban) Berlin and was a lifelong area resident. She graduated from Central High School and the University of Missouri, Columbia, where she was President of Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority. Rae was a lifelong member of Congregation Beth Shalom, its Sisterhood and Hadassah. She started her own business, Light & Right, a Lucite giftware company. Rae also worked at the Jewish Theological Seminary in Kansas City, and was a committed volunteer with such organizations as Dolls for Democracy and CASA. Rae loved to travel the world with her husband and embraced any adventure. She was devoted to her family, her grandchildren and great-grandson and her wide circle of friends. Rae was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Richard Rubins, of the home; son and daughter-in-law: Jeff and Amy Rubins, Minneapolis, MN; daughters and sons-in-law: Laurie and Bill Ivy, Dallas, TX; Debra and Charlie Brook, Overland Park, KS; Julie and Roger Wilen, Chicago, IL; brother and sister-in-law: Larry Berlin and Jean McPhail, Dexter, MI; grandchildren and spouses: Eric and Becca Ivy, Louisville, KY; Jason and Misty Ivy, Tulsa, OK; Caroline and Andy Vandiver, Dallas, TX; Lisa Ivy, Dallas, TX; Dana Leib, Overland Park, KS; Ethan, Benjamin and Alex Wilen, Chicago, IL; Rebecca and Shane Noecker, St. Paul, MN; David and Jonathan Rubins, Minneapolis, MN; great-grandson: Caleb Vandiver, Dallas, TX.
