Phoebe Ann Mooney Obituary (2008) - Kansas City, Missouri

Phoebe Ann Mooney of Kansas City, MO, passed away at home on Monday, April 21, 2008 at the age of 68. Services will be at 10:00am Wednesday, April 23 in the Rose Hill Cemetery Mausoleum, 6900 Troost Avenue. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to the American Cancer Society. At the age of 16, Phoebe was a Debutant at the Jewel Ball. After attending Shawnee Mission High School, she was honored to receive scholarships in drama, first to the University of Kansas and then to California’s Pasadena Playhouse. From there, she moved to New York to continue her studies in theater. Additionally, she performed in off-off Broadway, in New Jersey, and in small roles in the Shakespeare Festival in New England. After several years, Phoebe moved back to Kansas City where she started her first business selling her own unique batik creations. She developed a love for fencing. In 2000, she became a World Class Saber Champion in her age group. Phoebe had a love for the Renaissance Age, and was crowned Queen at the Renaissance Festival in Bonner Springs, KS where she performed that role for several years. Continuing her love of the Renaissance, she produced, directed, wrote, and starred in her own productions of period film, while creating the costumes as well. She was a generous contributor of the Arts in Kansas City. She loved gardening and was a lover of animals. Phoebe was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Justin L. Mooney and Phoebe Lighton. of Kansas City, MO. She is survived by her two brothers and sisters-in-law: J.D. and Alayne Mooney and Herbert and Enid Mooney, all of Leawood, KS; niece: Jo Ann Mooney and her husband Dave Spake; great-niece: Avery; nephew: David Mooney and his wife Barbara; great-niece: Hannah Rose, Olathe, KS; niece: Jill Mooney, Los Angeles, CA; niece: Lisa Ciccolini and her husband Michael; great-nieces: Lauren and Marissa, Franklin, MA; niece: Terri L.
