Muriel Blackman Obituary (1925 - 2011)

Muriel Blackman, 86, of Leawood, KS, passed away Friday, October 14, 2011 at the Kansas City Hospice House. Funeral services will be at 2:00pm Monday, October 17, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Burial to follow at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contribution to Ohev Sholom Synagogue. Mrs. Blackman was a long time member of Ohev Sholom Synagogue and its Sisterhood, of which she was very active. She was also a life member of B’nai B’rith Women and Hadassah. She was born in New York City and moved to the Kansas City area as a child and attended Kansas City Schools. Mrs. Blackman was an accomplished pianist and was a graduate of the Julliard School of Music. She enjoyed cooking, traveling, music, art, Mahjong, reading and antiques. She was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Jack Blackman on July 13, 2011; a son, Joel Blackman and a sister, Nettie Baker. Mrs. Blackman is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Sydney and Mich- ael Katz, Leawood, KS; daughter-in-law Kristy Blackman, Leawood, Ks; grand- children: Todd Blackman, Portland, OR, Robert and Liz Katz, Jerusalem, Julie Katz, Chicago, IL; great-grandchildren: Yehudah, Yerucham Tzvi, Mordechai Katz; sisters-in-law: Sue Blackman and Ida Mae Blackman.
