Mary Esther Mermelstein Obituary (2007)

Mary Esther Mermelstein, 99, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Monday, March 5, 2007 at Ashford Place. Funeral services will be 2:00pm Wednesday, March 7, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial at Sheffield Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to Beth Israel Abraham and Voliner Synagogue, The Torah Learning Center or a charity of one’s choice.Mrs. Mermelstein was a seamstress in various coat factories and department stores including Hartzfeld’s, on the Plaza where she worked for 12 ½ years then the Palace Clothing Store, from which she retired.She was a member of Beth Israel Abraham and Voliner Synagogue, its Sisterhood, AMIT Women and Hadassah. Mrs. Mermelstein helped prepare meals for many of the AMIT Women and Sisterhood luncheons and dinners. She was born in Slabicseva, Czechoslovakia and came to the Kansas City area from Lame’, France in 1947. Mrs. Mermelstein was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Joseph Mermelstein, in 1993 and a sister, Margarite Davis.She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law: Albert H. and JoAnn Mermelstein, Columbia, MO; Aaron L. and Marcia Mermelstein, St. Louis, MO; daughters and sons-in-law: Elaine and Neal Singer, Leawood, KS; Freida and Marshall Duny, Virginia Beach, VA; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
