Marvin Litman Obituary (2008) - Overland Park, Kansas

Marvin W. Litman, 83, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Monday, March 17, 2008 at Menorah Medical Center. Funeral services will be 3:00pm Wednesday, March 19, at Congregation Kol Ami, 7501 Belinder, Prairie Village, KS. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to Wayside Waifs. Marvin was born in Kansas City, MO in 1925. The son of Samuel and Bertha Goldstein Litman, Marvin went on to graduate from the University of Illinois in 1946. Before college, he served his country in the Army Air Corps during WWII. His interest and life long passion for advertising, merchandising and marketing developed from his entrepreneurial spirit and his talents in the graphic arts. He first became a partner in 1951 at Litman, Stevens and Margolin. During this time, he was instrumental in helping promote the bond issue which passed allowing the Philadelphia Athletics to come to Kansas City and play baseball in Municipal Stadium. Marvin developed his role as a prominent Kansas City advertising and marketing executive while working through the 60’s at Litman, Stevens, Shear and as national sales Manager for Songrand-Dazey. From the early 70’s thru the late 80’s, Marvin was a partner at Sher, Jones and Litman, where his efforts were directed as the principle sports marketing director for the Kansas City Kings. He was very active with the Jewish Community Center producing their annual “Sports Nite” for sixteen years. He designed and supervised the sculpture of the Magen David in front of the Jewish Community Center and the creation of the David Belzer Gardens in the back. From 1988 thru 2007, Marvin also continued to design all new member promotions and programming materials at the Jewish Community Center. Marvin was a “Great Idea” man who realized the value of a brand name. He was preceded in death by his wife of 36 years, Louise D. Litman, in 1985 and a brother, Stanley Litman. Marvin is survived by his sons: Steve Litman, Clayton, MO and Brian Litman, Henderson, NV; granddaughters: Chloe Litman and Micah Litman, St. Louis, MO.
