Marion Altman

–

Leawood, Kansas

Marion Altman, 98, of Leawood, Kansas, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on September 6, 2026.

Marion was married to her beloved husband, Stan, for 42 wonderful years. Stan passed away in 1992. Together, they built a life filled with family, music, laughter, and love. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Jeff & Sharon, and Ron & Julie; grandchildren Tracy (Evan), Brian (Kevin), Jordy, Doug (Claire), and Scott; great-grandchild Louie and dear sister-in-law, Nancy Ruben. She was also very close to her late brother, Richard Ruben, and their bond remained a special and cherished part of her life.

Marion was pre-deceased by her parents, Harry & Edith Ruben, husband, Stan Altman and brother, Richard Ruben.

Marion’s life included many stops along the way. In 1950, Marion and Stan moved to Alexandria, Virginia, after he was drafted. She worked as a secretary at Fort Belvoir Army base. Eventually, they returned to Kansas City, where she worked for TWA until 1954, when they started a family.

Marion also had a wonderful creative side. She loved acting and singing in Kiddie Capers, a JCC-based theatrical company focused on children's stories. With her beautiful soprano voice, she sang at weddings and at her grandchildren's Bar and Bat Mitzvahs. She was a member of The Matchmakers Trio, a popular group that performed at Jewish events in the 1970’s, and later sang for many years in the Congregation Beth Torah choir.

While devoted to her family, Marion also built a successful career with Avon, where she worked for years and was promoted several times. She was proud of her work and enjoyed the people she met along the way.

Marion had many interests, but playing poker brought her some of her greatest joy. She was an incredibly skilled and competitive card player, and she was equally adept at Mahjong, Rummikub, Pan, and Gin Rummy. She loved the games, the competition, and especially the time spent with family and friends. She also loved music, dancing, traveling, boating, and vacationing with family in the Ozarks.

Some of the sweetest memories of Marion are the everyday ones. She loved baking family favorites, including Mandel bread and her special bundt cake, which her grandchildren famously fought over the naming rights to.

Marion's family was her greatest accomplishment.
