Overland Park, Kansas
Lesly Ozar, 89, of Overland Park, Kansas, died on Friday July 31, 2026, peacefully at her home. Funeral services were held at Lous Memorial Chapel on Sunday, August 2, 2026, six years to the date of the passing of her husband, Issy Ozar.
Lesly was born in Omaha, Nebraska and was the only child of her parents Frances and Leonard Klein. She graduated from University of Nebraska in 1958 with a degree in Speech Pathology. Before getting married in November 1958, she was an AKSARBEN princess, an honor that her grandparents, John and Lena Robinson, who were involved in this organization.
Her college roommate from Kansas City set Lesly up with a blind date who ended up being the love of her life, Issy Ozar. They were married over 60 years and had 3 children, Lenny, Stephanie and Lisa. Lesly was a stay-at-home mom and did not return to work until her children were grown.
She lost her father when she was just 16 years old, which was not very easy then. She and her mom were a pair. They were surrounded by family which was a big help. They moved several times but ended up back in Omaha. Lesly was a wonderful daughter and cared for Frances, her mother. Eventually, Frances was moved to Kansas City so that Lesly could have her close by and was in an apartment with 24/7 care.
Herr career path changed, and she decided to work as a travel agent. She loved to travel and did travel the world with Issy and sometimes with her travel partners or girlfriends. Travelling gave her the opportunity to give her clients the best opinions on what to do and see and eat of course. Her travels were planes, trains and of course guided automobiles. She almost visited every continent.
Lesly was a member of Oakwood and played golf and PAN for many years. She wintered in Hawaii for many years then later Palm Springs. Lesly and Issy were very social attending many political events, theatre, concerts and both fine and casual dining and let’s not forget all the sporting events she attended, The KC Blues Hockey, KC Kings basketball, The Royals and of course the KC Chiefs. She loved them all.
Great grandchildren, Kingsley, Isadore, after his grandpa Issy and Isabelle were her true pleasure these past few years when she no longer left the house. Lesly was also very proud of her 3 grandchildren, Jared and his wife Chaleena, Dr. Jonah Elyachar and his girlfriend Kinsey Stephens, and her only granddaughter, Sarah and fiancé Joesph Levin. She was hoping to see them marry in October on Facetime.
Lesly was a member of Congregation Beth Shalom then moved to Congregation Beth Torah when Stephanie and Adam married. Beth Torah was closer to their home when they moved out south, from Missouri to Kansas. They also liked the Rabbi Mark Levin and were happy to see a new Temple being born. She was a lifetime member of Hadassah and National Council of Jewish Women and Menorah Auxiliary too.
Petite in stature only, strong will, didn’t take the answer no, very often. She was a force of nature. Kind, generous and beautiful. Always dressed, with perfect hair, makeup and nails and of course her high heels.
We cannot forget her love for animals, particularly dogs. Yorkies. She had many and took care of them like children. Her dogs could do nothing wrong.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Wayside Waifs, Alzheimer’s Association of Kansas City, Beth Torah Congregation or a charity of their choice.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Donald Cohen for his dedication and individualized attention in providing the best medical care for Lesly. Finally, the family would like to express its profound gratitude to all caregivers, Paty, Alma, Erika, Anna and Yuri for the extraordinary care and compassion and dignity they provided Lesly for these past few years. Lesly got what she wanted again!
