Dr. Leonard Allen Hoffman, D.D.S. Obituary (2008)

Lt. Colonel, U.S. Army, retired Leonard Allen Hoffman, 63, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Monday, April 1, 2008 at The V.A. Medical Center. An informal celebration of his life will be held at 5:00pm Friday, April 4, at the Residence Inn by Marriott - Kansas City Airport. Call 816-741-2300 for directions. Cremation. Box 6003, Albert Lea, MN 56007-6603 or www.livestrong.org. Dr. Hoffman was a Pediatric Dentist for 30 years with his practice located in Parkville, MO which he started in 1982. He also practiced General Dentistry while serving in the U.S. Army, from July, 1974 to April, 1984, when he retired with the rank of Lt. Colonel. Dr. Hoffman received his Bachelor’s degree from UCLA in 1966, his Master’s degree from USC in 1967, then graduated from the University of Pittsburg School of Dentistry in 1971. He taught at the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Dentistry for many years. Dr. Hoffman also performed and provided services at Children’s Mercy Hospital, Heartland Dental in Leavenworth, KS and at a Dental Clinic in Camdenton, MO. He would also speak at elementary schools about the importance of correct dental hygiene. He was an avid runner, participating in several charity runs and events, also finishing the Kansas City Marathon. Dr. Hoffman loved to be outdoors and enjoyed exercising. He loved to make friends wherever he was working or living. He was born in Los Angeles, CA and came to the Kansas City area during his military career and served his residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital. Dr. Hoffman was preceded in death by his parents: Julius and Belle (Kvitka) Hoffman. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law: Kate & Michael Garrett, Boise, ID; Ann McCallister, Puyallup, WA; their mother: Christina Hoffman, Sonora, CA; Emily Hoffman and Heidi Hoffman, both of Kansas City, MO; their mother: Kathy Hoffman, Kansas City, MO; sister and brother-in-law: Barbara Bergstein and Michael Garelick, Los Angeles, CA; grandchildren: Jacob Avery McCallister and Serena Evelyn McCallister; nephew: Brian Bergstein, Boston, MA; niece: Amy Bergstein, Los Angeles, CA; aunt (his mother’s twin sister) Dorothy Goldstein, Los Angeles, CA; numerous cousins also survive.
