Leo David Marks Obituary (2007)

Leo D. Marks, 91, of south Kansas City, MO, a longtime Journalist, writer and editor with the Associated Press, died Tuesday, January 09, 2007 at The Sweet Life at Rosehill. Graveside services will be 12 noon Sunday, January 14, at Rose Hill Cemetery, 6900 Troost Avenue. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to Temple B’nai Jehudah summer camp scholarship fund. Mr. Marks was born November 4, 1915 in Omaha, NE and grew up in Tulsa, OK. Upon graduation from the University of Oklahoma in 1937, he joined the Muskogee, OK Daily Phoenix as a reporter and left as city editor for military service in 1942, serving in Europe as a captain in the U.S. Army artillery. Upon return from military service he worked as a newspaperman in San Antonio, TX and Omaha before joining the AP in Tulsa in 1949. The AP transferred him to Oklahoma City, and then to Kansas City in 1956 where he served as night supervisor before retirement. Mr. Marks retired from the AP in 1981, and he and his wife of 49 years, Geraldine continued to make their home in Kansas City. She died in 1992. Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Ronald B. & Nancy Marks, Oshkosh, WI; a daughter and son-in-law, Ellen S. & Kip Rosner, Leawood, KS; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
