LEIBERT BIRNBAUM Obituary (1931 - 2018)

Leibert Birnbaum, 87 of Overland Park, KS passed away August 4, 2018. Graveside service and interment will be at 10:00am Monday, August 6, 2018 at Mt. Carmel Cemetery, 5529 Ditzler Ave, Raytown, MO. Memorial contributions may be made to any breast cancer charity or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Leibert Birnbaum was born on April 30th, 1931 to Minnie and Isadore Birnbaum in Maryville, Missouri. He was a small child when his father died and his mom moved him and his two brothers, Bernard and Melvin, to Kansas City. He was the youngest, but not the baby of the family. Times were tough and everyone grew up fast. Leibert married Miriam on November 18, 1956 and they had two children, Susan and Sharon, both of whom preceded him in death at way too young of an age. He adored them. He showed wonderful kindness and appreciation to so many in his life – which included close friends, whom he considered family, and their children. His grandchildren, Josh and Hannah were his greatest joy later in life. He was a fierce and loyal champion and a large figure in the life of his many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, especially Patti Friedman who was by his side whenever he needed support. For someone who faced great adversity in his life, he was positive, and he continued to find joy around him. He always had a quick smile and he loved a good hug. His entire work career was spent at Vile Goller and the friendships he made there were lifelong and treasured. He will be missed and remembered as a tall man with a big opinion and a heart of gold. We are grateful to have had him in our lives.
