Jerry H. Shumaker Obituary (2006) - Overland Park, Kansas

Jerry H. Shumaker, 89, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Saturday, February 11, 2006, at St. Joseph Health Center. Funeral services will be 11:00am Wednesday, February 15, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, family suggests contributions to Multiple Sclerosis Society, Special Olympics or Ozanam Home for Boys and Girls. Jerry opened “Jerry’s Sport Shop” in Truman Corner’s Shopping Center, Grandview, MO in 1957. He retired in 2001 but stayed active at the store until his death. Jerry was one of the founders of South Suburban Junior Baseball Association (SSJBA), which gave hundreds of kids the opportunity to play baseball and was a multiple sponsor of many, many boys and girls sports teams. He was active in the Grandview community in many ways. Jerry was a past president of Truman Corner’s Business Association, member of the Board of Director’s of North American Savings Bank and the Ward Parkway Shopping Center Association. He loved fishing, the Kansas City Royals and Kansas City Chiefs. Jerry was a member of Congregation B’nai Jehudah. He was born in Kansas City, MO and was a life long area resident. Jerry was preceded in death by his loving wife of over 50 years, Lucille Spector Shumaker, his much beloved son, Ronnie Shumaker and two other special people in his life, Bea Marks and Ida Pearl Russell. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Vicki and Jim Egender, Kansas City, MO; daughter-in-law: Heddy Shumaker, Grandview, MO; grandchildren: Wendy Shumaker, Grandview, MO; Kenny & Debbie Shumaker and children Haley, Zach and Dalton, Raymore, MO; Lisa Riggs and children Zane & Zoey, Raymore, MO; Laurie & Todd Cole and children Molly, Lucy, Riley & Paige, Allen, TX; Karen & Phil Camp and children Jalen, Ryan & Annabelle, Raymore, MO; Jennifer & Greg Gibson, Dallas, TX; Joe, Rebecca & Mary Ruth Egender, Los Angeles, CA. Jerry was a loving father, grandfather and a mentor to many, many people.
