Ita Berkowitz Obituary (1925

Ita Berkowitz, 84, passed away Wednesday, December 9, 2009 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Leawood. Graveside services will be 1:00pm Friday, December 11 at Sheffield Cemetery. Burial will follow. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Chabad House of Kansas City, 6201 Indian Creek Dr., Overland Park, KS 66207 or the Heritage Center at the Jewish Community Center of Greater Kansas City. Mrs. Berkowitz was a Holocaust survivor. She immigrated with her mother to the Kansas City area in 1950, to join her sister. She co-owned Berkowitz Catering which was well known for catering weddings and many Israel Bond Dinners over the years. She was a former member of both B.I.A.V. and Beth Shalom Synagogue. Mrs. Berkowitz was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Joseph, 1999; sisters: Mary Klapholz, Sarah Richer; grandson: Jonathan Mawhirter; many other family members in the Holocaust. She is survived by son and daughter-in-law: Jack and Susan Berkowitz, Overland Park, KS; daughters and son-in-law: Debbe Sporn: Grand Island, NE, Mary and Rick Mawhirter, Raytown, MO; grandchildren: Aaron Sporn, Blake Berkowitz, Joshua, Sara, and Mindy Mawhirter.
