Howard W. Friedmann Obituary (2006) - Prairie Village, Kansas

Howard W. Friedmann, 82, of Prairie Village, KS, died Wednesday, February 8, 2006 at Villa St. Francis, from complications arising from a stroke he suffered last October, and Parkinson’s disease. Memorial services will be 1:00pm Thursday, February 9, at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, 12320 Nall. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Endowment Fund at The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah. Mr. Friedmann was born February 16, 1923, the son of Mack H. Friedmann and Sarah Gershon Friedmann. A life-long resident of the Kansas City area, he was a 1939 graduate of Paseo High School and received the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Economics and Business Administration from the University of Kansas City in 1943. Commissioned as an ensign in the United States Naval Reserve in 1943, Mr. Friedmann spent two years with the Pacific Fleet aboard the USS Straus (DE 408). For his service, he received the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic- Pacific Campaign Medal (four battle stars), World War II Victory Medal and Navy Occupation Medal (Asia clasp). Mr. Friedmann’s professional career was spent as a manufacturer’s representtative for various companies. He was a principal of L.S. Gershon & Son and later headed Howard W. Friedmann & Co. Although he was active with various charitable and civic organizations, Mr. Friedmann’s abiding and passionate interest was in The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah. He served The Temple in various elected positions including president of the Congregation. Predeceased by his parents and brother, Sherman L. Friedmann, he is survived by wife of over 60 years, Mariam Phyllis Kamen Friedmann and son, Tom A. Friedmann, of the home; and daughter, Barbara L. Friedmann, of Overland Park, KS. Mr. Friedmann’s family wishes to express their thanks for the support of their dear ones during a very difficult time and, in particular, wishes to thank the staff of Villa St. Francis of Olathe for their consummate professionalism, consideration and generosity.
