Himie "Hy" Wainstock Obituary (1931 - 2011)

Himie Wainstock, 80, Overland Park, KS passed away Saturday, June 4, 2011 at Kansas City Hospice House. Graveside services at 12:00 p.m., Monday June 6 at Sheffield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Kehilath Israel Synagogue, 10501 Conser, Overland Park, KS 66212, Kansas City Hospice House, 12000 Wornall Road, Kansas City, MO 64145 or Kansas City Hospice and Palliative Care, 9221 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO 64114. Born on February 1, 1931, Himie “Hy” Wainstock grew up in the north end of Kansas City. As a young man, he worked at Kansas City Auto Supply and at the time of the Korean War, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. He was stationed at Stead AFB in Reno, NV. He was deployed to the 3904th Motor Vehicle Squadron. While in the service and at home on leave, he met the love of his life, Phyllis Dubin. On June 3, 1953, Phyllis and Hy were married and were partners in life for 58 years. He was owner and operator of two hobby shops and then later went to work at Century Laboratories selling industrial chemicals. Himie was a member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue. Hy enjoyed the Chiefs and Royals. Even with the teams’ problems, he was still a fan. I can still see him jumping in the living room when Otis Taylor had that catch and run in Super Bowl IV. He was preceded in death by his parents: Ben and Bertha Wainstock; brother: Leo Wainstock. He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Phyllis, of the home; son and daughter-in-law: David and Gail Wainstock, Olathe, KS; daughter and son-in-law: Stephanie and Alan Osadchey, Northridge, CA; brother and sister-in-law: Mike and Lucie Wainstock, Kansas City, MO; sister: Betty Sokoloff, Miami, FL; grandchildren: Marc and Nathan Osadchey, Leah and Bailey Wainstock The Wainstock Family wishes to thank Anne Miller with Kansas City Hospice and the staff for their excellent care.
