Herbert Alan Tanzer Obituary (2007)

Herbert Alan Tanzer, 84, a former accountant, died Saturday, March 24, 2007 or complications from hemolytic anemia at Fair Oaks Hospital in Fairfax, VA. He lived in Fairfax, VA and for his work he commuted weekly to the Wal Mart Corporate offices in Bentonville, AR for the past 25 years. Mr. Tanzer was born and grew up in Kansas City, MO. He was a 1944 graduate of the University of Missouri School of Business. He lived for 13 years in St. Louis, MO and spent some years in Memphis, TN, Cleveland, OH and back again in Kansas City before residing in Vir- ginia for the past 15 years. Mr. Tanzer spent the last 25 years with Profit Recovery Group, Inc. as a forensic accountant. Prior to this position he held senior financial positions with Macy’s, May Company and Burstein Applebee. His open and welcoming personality led him to spending time with his friends and family. Mr. Tanzer also held a strong intellectual curiosity that drove him into many areas of interest. He drew people in with his breadth and depth of knowledge. He was known for having an almost encyclopedic knowledge. But friends and family knew his best traits were his integrity and caring. He is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Jan Tanzer, three adoring sons, Fredrick, Joshua, Gregory and his wife Sandra, a sister, Sharlyne Burstein and five grandhildren. Funeral services will be 11:00am Sunday, April 1, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery.
