Helen Cohen, 79, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Tuesday, April 29, 2008. Funeral services will be 10:30am Friday, May 2, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue. Burial at Sheffield Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests
contributions to Ohev Sholom Synagogue, American Heart Association or the Arthritis Foundation. Mrs. Cohen, a lifelong resident of the Kansas City area, was a member
of Congregation Ohev Sholom for over 57 years and a life member of its Sisterhood.
She attended Kansas City schools and graduated from Central High School. Mrs. Cohen was a devoted mother and grandmother. Family was very important to her. She was very independent and took great pride in not having to rely on others. Mrs. Cohen was always concerned about the well being of others, even when she was facing difficulties. Helen and Maynard, her husband of 35 years, who preceded her in death in 1984, were always together. You would always find them on the dance floor. In addition to her husband,
she was also preceded in death by her parents, Samuel Z. and Tillie (Flapan) Morris, mother-in-law: Selma Cohen and sister-in-law: Eleanor Marks. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law; Gayle and David Shechter, Olathe, KS; Marcy and Aaron
Zimmerman, Overland Park, KS; grandsons: Grant and Maxwell Zimmerman, both of Overland Park, KS; her sister: Florence Morris, Kansas City, MO and her brother-in-law: Bernie
Marks, Sacramento, CA. The family would like to thank mother’s many close friends and especially her two caregivers, Sandy Craig and Karen Williams for all of their devotion and love in mom’s last days. She will be greatly missed.
