Jean G, Goldstein Obituary (1921

Jean Mendelson Goldstein was born on September 1, 1921, in Kansas City, Mo., to Claire and Louis Greenman. She graduated from Norman Grade School and Westport Junior and Senior high schools. She was confirmed from Temple B'Nai Jeudah. Jean attended the University of Missouri, where she became a member of the Alpha Epislon Phi Sorority. She was president of the chapter and continued to be an active member after graduation. She majored in foreign languages and was fluent in Spanish and French. In 1944, she married Charles Robert Mendelson and lived in Sioux City, Iowa. They had two children, Bobby and Marilyn. They then moved to Rockford, Ill., where they owned a ladies ready to wear store. Charles passed away in 1961, and Jean returned to Kansas City with her children and went to work at Halls on the Plaza. She was an avid golfer and bowler. While living in Kansas City, she was a staunch supporter of the League Of Women Voters. She met Harold Goldstein from Sioux City, and they married in 1973. Jean enjoyed living in Sioux City and had many friends there. Harold retired, and the couple moved to Boca Raton, Fla. They had been married 35 happy years. After a long illness, Jean passed away January 27. She is survived by her loving husband, Harold Goldstein. She is also survived by her son, Robert Mendelson of Bronxville, N.Y.; daughter Marilyn Mendelson of Overland Park, Kan., her fiance James Kornegay and grandson Charles Robert Mendelson; sister Hortense Brozman; nieces and nephews: Barbara and Bruce Bailey, Jack and Fran Brozman, Nancy and Steve Daley, Ricki Brozman; cousins Phyllis and Donald Brod; sister-in-law Marjorie Rosen Mendleson, and Jean's second loving family: Carlynn Donosky, Boynton Beach, Fla., children Jeffry and his wife Allison and their children Lily and Natalie of Singapore, Lori Jackowitz, her husband Ken and their children Ethan and Mia of Charlotte, N.C., Suzi and Paul Kaiman, Sioux City, Iowa, children Beth and Burton Zwick and their children Sarah, Rebecca and Zachery of Herrin, Ill., Joshua Kaiman, Sioux City, Iowa, and Judd Kaiman, Boulder, Colo. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent to the charities of one's choice. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, January 30, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost, Kansas City, Mo.
