Goldene Edith Rydell Obituary (2008)

Goldene Edith Rydell, 92, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008. Graveside services were held at Mt. Carmel on Thursday, October 2, 2008. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to charity of your choice. Mrs. Rydell co-owned with her husband Milton, Rydell Custom Tailor in Brookside, for 26 years before retirement in 1978. She was a member of Kehilath Israel Synagogue and was Rabbi Maurice Solomon’s secretary prior to her marriage. She was a member of Hadassah, KI Sisterhood, Midwest Center for Holocaust Education, the U.S. Holocaust Museum and numerous other organizations. Mrs. Rydell was a volunteer at the Hadassah Thrift Center for 28 years, a Yiddish language interpreter at Menorah Medical Center in the later 1970’s, early 1980’s for newly arrived Jewish Russian immigrants, and was a volunteer administrator for the Holocaust survivors’ organization in Kansas City, The New American Club. She was born in Kansas City, MO and was a life long area resident. Mrs. Rydell was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mary Gottlieb; her husband of 32 years, Milton Rydell, in 1984; sister: Anna Gottlieb; sisters-in-law: Pearl Gottlieb, Ann Goodman Sukiennik, and Jean Saionz; brothers-in-law: Robert Bitner and Moritz Saionz. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Carol Rydell and Gary Langston, Kansas City, MO; Jana and Sam Fisherowitz, Denver, CO; brother: Sam Gottlieb, Overland Park, KS; sister: Esther Bitner, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Marla Hadassah Fisherowitz and Deena Fisherowitz, both of Denver, CO; brother-in-law and sister-in-law: Maury and Eva Rydell; many nieces, nephews, great and great-great nieces and nephews. The family wishes to express their gratitude to her many friends and staff at The Atriums and especially the staff at The Forum for the wonderful care she received during the last month of her life. Those that knew her appreciated her sense of humor and wisdom.
