Frances Tonkin

Frances Tonkin, 92, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Menorah Medical Center. Graveside services will be at 2:00pm Sunday, December 15, at Sheffield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital (donors@stjude.org) or the American Heart Association.
She was born June 2, 1921, in Poland, the daughter of Jacob and Edith Yaskolka, and came to the Kansas City area as a young child. Mrs. Tonkin was a member of Beth Shalom Synagogue. She was a housewife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who played Mah Jong and cards regularly with her group of friends. Mrs. Tonkin was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of almost 62 years, Max Tonkin, in 2003 and her brothers and sisters. She is survived by her son: Jeffrey B. Tonkin, and his companion, Monica Hastings, Leawood, KS; grandchildren: Dr. Jeremy B. and Amanda Tonkin; Jennifer M. and Cody Sexton; and 3 great-grandchildren.
