Donald Tranin Obituary (2007) - Kansas City, Missouri

Donald Tranin, 80, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Saturday, August 11, 2007 at Menorah Medical Center. Funeral services will be 10:30am Tuesday, August 14, at Kehilath Israel Synagogue, 10501 Conser, Overland Park, KS. Burial at Kehilath Israel Blue Ridge Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to the Jewish Community Foundation, “1215 Fund”, 5801 W. 115th Street, Overland Park, KS 66211 or to a charity of the donor’s choice. Mr. Tranin, a Kansas City native, co-owned the Paper Supply Company on Southwest Boulevard, Kansas City, MO. He was on the Board of Directors of Menorah Hospital on Rockhill Rd. Mr. Tranin was instrumental in the hospital’s relocation. The Board later sold the Hospital to Health Midwest, and the money was used to start the Jewish Heritage Foundation, of which Mr. Tranin was the first president. Mr. Tranin was Co-chair of the former National Conference of Christians and Jews, President of Jewish Vocational Services and President of the Jewish Federation. He was on the Board of Directors of Hebrew Immigrant Aide Society, Rockhurst College, Truman Medical Center, Menninger’s, the Menorah Legacy Foundation and many others. Mr. Tranin collected African art and loved to travel. He was a Mensch, a sweet kind man, who always thought of others first. Mr. Tranin loved his wife and family and liked to negotiate differences of opinions and bring people together. Don Tranin was a significant leader who was humble about his involvement in the community. Mr. Tranin is survived by his wife of 54 years, Sally Tranin, of the home; son and daughter-in-law: Ed and Amy Tranin, Leawood, KS; daughter and son-in-law: Laura Tranin and Alan Greenstein, Seattle, WA; sisters and brother-in-law: Marian Shultz, Overland Park, KS; Shirley and Stanley Morantz, Prairie Village, KS; grandchildren: Alex, Nathan, Emily and Lewis; sister-in-law and brother-in-law: Irene and Irving Fener, Tulsa, OK;
