David A. Gilman Obituary (2008) - Overland Park, Kansas

David A. Gilman, 95, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2008 at Village Shalom. Funeral services will be 2:30pm Monday, March 31, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to Kansas City Hospice or Hyman Brand Hebrew Academy. Mr. Gilman was a Certified Public Accountant in private practice for 60 years, until age 89. He received his B.A. from the University of Chicago followed by training as a C.P.A. and was a graduate of the Hebrew Theological Seminary on a Bronfman Scholarship. Mr. Gilman was a Governor of the Canadian Institute of Chartered Accountants for 3 years. He was a former 35 year member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, its Men’s Club, B’nai B’rith and the Masons. Mr. Gilman was born July 5, 1912, in Tribune, Saskatchewan, Canada and served in the Canadian Air Force in WWII. He was preceded in death by his parents: Isaac and Hanna (Kasakoff) Gilman; a brother: Maurice Gillman and sisters: Kashie Kasakoff and Marian Nelson. Mr. Gilman is survived by his dearly beloved wife of 66 years, Helen Gilman; son: Sheldon Gilman and his companion Mandy Levine, Santa Monica, CA; daughter and son-in-law: Barbara and Nick Vahlkamp, Highland Park, IL; son and daughter-in-law: Dr. Richard Gilman and Dr. Lynn Murray, Overland Park, KS; brother and sister-in-law: Sam and Marge Gilman, Winnipeg, Canada; grandchildren: Nicole Vahlkamp, Alexi Vahlkamp, Laura Gilman and Jay Gilman. Many nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. The family wishes to thank his caregivers: Sylilia Lamb, Odessa Nix, Pam Craven; the staff at Village Shalom and Kansas City Hospice and to Dr. John Goldberg.
