Charlotte Serkes Levy Obituary (2006)

Charlotte Serkes Levy passed away at Menorah Medical Center Friday, October 20, 2006. Her loving family was in attendance. Born in St. Louis she has been a resident of Kansas City, MO since 1931 when she married Joseph Sidney Levy (husband deceased in 1975), Attorney at Law. She was actively involved in the community and served as a board member and/or officer in the Temple B’nai Jehudah Sisterhood, National Council of Jewish Women, Brandeis Women’s Committee and Menorah Medical Center Auxiliary. She was a member of Oakwood Country Club for over fifty years. She celebrated her 95th birthday in August surrounded by her children: Millicent Levy Evans of Boca Raton, FL; Marti and Larry Levy of Prairie Village, KS; her grandchildren: Mark and Angela Levy of Prairie Village, KS; Amy and Richard Deutch of Miami, FL; Jill Gordon of Chicago; and, Jane and Jay Mazur of Maplewood, NJ; her great-grandchildren: Allison and Emily Deutch, Erika and Brena Levy and Jack Mazur; sister-in-law Doris Jean Serkes of St. Louis and all of her nieces and nephews: Betty and Lenny Hershman, Babs and Bill Lowen- stein, Lou Helen Pagel, Milli Ann Hershman, Emily and Stan House, Penny Hershman, Jody Serkes of Los Angeles and Jeff and Su-Ellen Serkes of St. Louis and caretaker Flora Spann. She was preceded in death by her loyal housekeeper of 35 years, Hilda Charles. Funeral services will be 2:30pm Sunday, October 22 at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue, Kansas City, MO. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. The family requests donations to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, 5005 LBJ Freeway, Ste. 250, Dallas, TX 75244 or a charity of one’s choice.
