Burton Oscar Lisman Obituary (2007)

Burton Lisman passed away on Thursday, May 3, 2007 at age 87 at his home. Services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, May 6 at Congregation Beth Torah, 6100 W. 127th, Overland Park, KS. Burial will follow at Mt. Moriah Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions be made to the National Kidney Foundation, The American Diabetes Association or Congregation Beth Torah. Burt was born in Cincinnati, OH on October 15, 1919 to Samuel and Celia Lisman. He is survived by his son, Steve Lisman, two grandchildren, Michael and Kerry Lisman of Kansas City, his companion, Barbara Bograd, of the home, brother and sister-in-law Albert and Evelyn Lisman, Boca Raton, FL. Burt was preceded in death by his daughter, Lori Ann Lisman, and former wife Marcia. Burt grew up in the Cincinnati area and started out at 9 years of age as a paperboy, which lead to his successful life in retail sales. He attended Washington University in Cincinnati, OH. He entered the Army in 1941 and was stationed in Fort Leavenworth, KS. He was a staff sergeant and fought in the Battle of the Bulge, where he was wounded and received the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. He came back from the war as a decorated hero and made his home in Kansas City. He started working at Kaplan’s Fabrics, which lead to a career in ladies fashions and ready to wear stores. In 1951 Burt opened “Lisman’s”, his first in a chain of 7 women’s clothing stores located in every major shopping center in the Kansas City metro area. After 30 years in the clothing industry, Burt retired from the stores and began All Pro Advertising. He partnered with long time friend and football Hall of Famer Buck Buchanan. Burt’s daughter, Lori Ann, was their top salesperson. Burt’s passion in life was the Kansas City Chiefs. Burt was involved with the Kansas City Chiefs from day one. He would go on to be one of the original founders of the Red Coaters and Chiefs Club. He was an integral motivating force in the early development of fan support for the Chiefs. He was a past president of the Red Coaters. He was also past president of the Chiefs Club and served several years on the Board of Directors. In 2006, Burt received “The Life Time Achievement Award” from Lamar Hunt and the Kansas City Chiefs. Burt was a member of the R.O.M.E.O.’s and the Downtown Rotary Club. Burt was loved by many and will be greatly missed by all he touched.
