Blanche Halper Ruvel Obituary (2007)

Blanche Halper Ruvel, 99, of Kansas City, MO, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2007 at Shawnee Mission Medical Center. Funeral services will be 3:30pm Thursday, January 11, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave. Burial at Rose Hill Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers, the family suggests contributions to a charity of one’s choice. Mrs. Ruvel was born May 6, 1907 in Galesburg, IL, attended Knox College in Galesburg, graduated from The University of Illinois in 1928 with honors, then worked as a journalist in Chicago, IL before coming to the Kansas City area in 1932. She was a member of The Temple, Congregation B’nai Jehudah, its Sisterhood, National Council of Jewish Women and the League of Women Voters. Mrs. Ruvel was preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Nathaniel “Niel” Ruvel, in 1987. She was also preceded in death by 5 brothers. Mrs. Ruvel is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law: Joan and Milton Loeb, Dallas, TX; Martha “Marty” and Mike May, Bartlesville, OK; Betsy and Stuart Zimbalist, St. Louis, MO; grandchildren: Jeri and Leland Dushkin, Karen and Randy Allen, Niel and Kristen Loeb, Mark May, Scott and Wendy May, Craig and Dianna May, Billy and Sari May, David and Julia Zimbalist, Jonathan and Hili Zimbalist and 18 great-grandchildren.
