Etlya Katsap Obituary (1921 - 2011) - Overland Park, Kansas

Etlya Katsap, 89, of Overland Park, KS, passed away Sunday, August 28, 2011 at her home. Funeral services will be at 3:30pm Wednesday, August 31, at The Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Avenue Kansas City, MO. Burial to follow at Sheffield Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers; the family suggests contributions to the Chabbad House. Etlya was born in 1921 in Romania and attended high school in her hometown of Khotin. She was engaged in 1939 to Gidal Katsap. They were in camps during WWII and were liberated in 1945. They then returned to her hometown, married, raised their son and daughter and in 1980, they brought their family to Kansas City. She was a member of the Chabbad House and was an avid reader. Etlya was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Gidal Katsap, in 1994 and her brothers, Yankel Shaponik and Aron Shizaf. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Shimon and Evgana Katsap, Melbourne, Australia; daughter and son-in-law: Riva and Semyon Sheyn, Overland Park, KS; grandchildren: Elena and Mark Porterfield, Jeff and Heather Sheyn and Greg and Alena Katsap; great-grandchildren: Brandon, Michael and Sophia Porterfield; Edenand Emma Katsap; cousins: Aby Muchik and family; Yoil Muchik and family; nieces and nephews and their families in Israel and her extended family: Fanya Sheyn and Dina Unever and their families.
